</OHIOTAFEST>
My girlfriend has been doing all our arrangements for Otafest (Thanks Andrea <3) and she's pestering the fuck out of me to post our position like you guys would actually go out of your way to remember it so you'll know where to find us, here it is: [link]
Anyway it turns out
Anyone with an illustrative background can tell you I suck on a lot of levels so news of such a titan attending this year sort of sparked my competitive side to get my gears turning again. I've been struggling with my Manga (finalizing designs, ugh.) so I doubt I'll have the first volume done like I had planned ;3;
So I suppose the fanart route is always safe and luckily for me, I have absolutely no problem with it. I love re-interpreting already established characters, I sort of feed off of it since OC's are all just rehash's for the most part. (Seriously, I don't understand people's fascination with them outside of their fear for conformity)
Bottom line is, EXPECT ILLUSTRATIONS. It'll be fun times.

Also I can't believe yanimator is gunna be there to! Wow! @o@
Also lone-momo and budgie!! This is gunna be awesome!
OC's sell depending on rep and establishment; Hunter's been frolicking with hers for years, has adequate DA watchers and it's not like her lineart isn't ridiculously well articulated and professional. Besides, she sells fanart to a certain degree as well last I checked.
Realism is like the weapon of choice for mainstream appeal, throw a realistic illustration against a stylized one and it'll most likely sell better because people are more than often under the impression that takes infinite times the amount of skill to render at such a level. Of course, its an Anime convention so the love will obviously balance out. Regardless, your realistic pretty boys will be wanted, or at least I would want one ;[
If anything, I would only make significantly larger sums of money because I sketch like I'm on steroids on location.
The fact that my stuff brings in more money for me than yours doesn't hurt your profits, it's completely irrelevant. Even if we weren't there at all, people who weren't going to buy your stuff when we where there still aren't going to buy your stuff if we're not there. If someone wants what you have they'll buy it, if no one wants what you have, our lack of presence isn't going to make them want to buy it anyways. We don't take sales from you, there is no competition.
You seem to think illustrations of different styles, fanart and original characters are all completely different and won't interfere with each other. Why are you trying so hard to differentiate yourself? That's just silly.
