Illustration class project, basically we had to create a B&W conceptual image based on an article along the lines of the 7 deadly sins. (Mine being Greed/Pride)
Article Summary: (For lazy people) Developing countries in Asia (Mainly China, Indonesia and India) were unwilling to compensate their economic growth for adequate action against Global Warming, unless of course, the US stepped up another notch. Chinese representatives felt that the results of Global Warming were largely due to the growth of the West over the past century and it's not their responsibility to help clean up "their" mess.
About the concept: - Chinese Dragon represents East, European Dragon represents West.
- I felt the article was bias towards the developing countries in tone, so I made the C-Dragon seem like a bit of a scheming sleeze ball whereas the E-Dragon is just stubborn/angry looking to keep with the theme.
- Both dragons share equal positive/negative space so their tension appears to be deadlocked evenly. I didn't want one seeming "greater" than the other. I scratched ideas about making the C-Dragon seem younger to represent the fact that they're still "developing".
You put a lot of thought into this, very impressive. You did great drawing the dragons themselves and taking care to give them the right character and space to best portray the mood and tone of the article. Brilliant work!
I like it - I really like it... great imaginative interpretation
hm.. But I think I would have given the whole image a texture underlay - like some old paper or something. It somehow.. looks so... 'slick' atm.
but whatevs that's just my taste I guess
your work in general is absolutely amazing btw.. I wish I was half the artist you are. And we're like.. almost the same age as well (if you're profile's up to date ^^) *sigh* ...
i see it. when i first saw the picture, it thought it was because the chinese dragon was shooting out smoke from its nose. xD but i totally grasp the concept of it.
Now people call it Global Climate Change. Just because there have been a lot of places with record freezing temperatures this year. Their poor theory just doesn't work out all that well...
great imaginative interpretation
